Jusburger leederville

we were hungry after watching a wildcats game tonight and intended to go to our favourite vietnamese restaurant- tra vinh. but to our dismay and much annoyance - all the main roads in northbridge were closed and blocked off "due to an event". which we learnt much later was the gay and lesbian parade.

soo... wanting to get away from northbridge, we decided to head to leederville and try jusburger. we've heard MANY goods things about this place, so why not?

we settled on the waygyu beef burger with salad and wasabi mayonnaise, with a side dish of onion rings. the burgers are fantastic! but the best part about tonight was the onion rings.
they were the BOMB, i will come back just to eat the onion rings. best onions rings i've ever had.
i took photos of my food but its on the iphone and i haven't figured out how to put photos from the iphone onto a blog yet. so heres a photo from their main website.

chris chun

i know i have written about Chris Chun before, but he's had another exhibition featuring 19 new paintings which i just had to write about. i only wish i was living in sydney so i could see the exhibition for myself. how ever if i did go to see the exhibition in person - i know i would come home with a painting. i dont think i could help myself!

Chris has also kept his website up to date and it now has an online store. how cool is that?
visit his website on www.chrischun.com

not only that but chris has also started a personal blog, i've already added it to one of my favourites. visit the blog on http://chrischunart.blogspot.com/

i love these paintings, they are just SO pretty and distract me from all the "bs" of work.

lusting after Marchesa

got a spare $5K to splash on an incredible dress?
if you do ... then make a drop dead gorgeous entrance in a MARCHESA!
i have followed celebrities on the red carpet wearing Marchesa .. and i swear they are always the ones making the best entrance and the MOST classy...

oh wells.. even if i do get a dress... i aint going anywhere fancy enough to justify these beautiful dresses. but a girl can always dream (and drool!).

check out stunning Marchesa dresses at Outnet.com, at incredibly reduced prices!
(still beyond my budget tho! .... one powerball...)

this is my FAV Marchesa dress...
now if i was only 178cm, skinny as a stick and drop dead gorgeous.. then i can be truly worthy of this dress..

summer herbs

i bought 3 baby basil plants during the weekend with miss c.
we went to canning vale sunday markets to pick up cheap herbs and plants.
it's so much better then paying premium prices from bunnings or other specialty garden places.

i cant wait till i can start harvesting...
i dont think i have to wait long... i need to make heaps of fresh vietnamese spring rolls for our melbourne cup pot luck lunch next tuesday.. and that mint is going to come in real handy!

best part about growing your own herbs? not paying stupid crazy $$ prices at the supermarket for a small bunch that only last for a few days. this way i dont waste anything! just take what you need.

check out my other babies below...

my baby basil, mint and coriander plants.

i have big plans for you babies!

my crazy amazing mint plant. they grow so fast when they are looked after properly...hehe
(mint was very neglected over winter)

my little garden patch :o)
they put a smile on my face when i come home and see them.
i just love to see how much they have grown in a day.
now i have a great supply of mint for my summer mojitos ... just need to organise a lime tree...hrmm..
green thumb clio.

currently reading....

the lost symbol by dan brown.

i'm only 2-3 chapters into the book and i'm hooked. i have enjoyed all the other dan brown books (yep ...i've read them all) but don't ask me detailed plot lines.. because i can't really remember them. especially deception point - no idea.

i look forward to curling up in bed at night to read 1-2 chapters, so i'm happy.
loving the gloomy yucky rainy weather we're having.
its perfect for curling up and sleeping in bed :o).

have you read 'the lost symbol'? share your thoughts and opinions... just dont give the ending away... ;oP xxoo.clio

currently reading

the best part about being a teacher is being part of scholastic bookclub. remember the lucky, arrow, wombat and star book club catalogues we received in primary school? they have some pretty amazing book discounts, and as a teacher we get bonus incentives, free books and vouchers!! its a book worms dream :)

anyways i got my hands on this book(courtesy of bookclub) after realizing it was the winner of the newbery medal 2009. i kinda go on the premise that if a book won an award it cant be too bad. so far so good - i cant say its a page turner... its taken me about 1-2 months to complete it. if im really into a book i will try to finish it as soon as possible.

worth a read for something different.

if you're interested in finding the newbery medal award winners for previous years - just google it, you'll end up in wikipedia. i try to read books that have won a newbery medal award to my kids, so they get a chance to read something different.

BIG changes for 2010

i heard from a fellow teacher yesterday that there are goin to be BIG changes happening to staffing next year. we've already lost 2 of our 5 contract teachers (for next year) - which is super sad news, because i'm going to miss them a lot.

not only that, the principal is mixing up the teaching posts.

i just HOPE i get to stay in yr 5,
i am really loving yr 5 and i love working with my buddy teacher - because we get a long soooo well... because we're both so easy going.

cross my fingers...clio

i think i need to go shopping

my old trustworthy toshiba laptop is slowly dying one me.
there is a 2.5cm black vertical strip dividing my laptop screen - the strip - is what i think is dead pixals. its effing annoying. i cant look at anything with a full screen anymore - and i am limited to 2/3 of my screen... arghhhhhhhhhh ...i cant work under these conditions...

so when the tuff get going...the going goes shopping for a new lap top... hehehhe

now i need a certain family member to get their saggy ass back to perth to set up the wireless stuff... coz i cbf...

any donations or recs for a new lap top? im partial to toshibas but i will try anything....

home made martabak telur (egg) & fresh snack

this blog is slowly turning into a food blog.... i've cooked and eaten out so much lately - i cant help document the things i've eaten :o)... AND i have remembered to take photos!! something that almost never happens ... heheh

a while ago i had this fantabulous idea to make my own martabak telur - indo style. its a pretty simple recipe,

step 1. beef mince sauteed with finely chopped onions, salt, pepper and curry powder to taste.

step 2.then you crack some eggs into a bowl, add lots of finely chopped spring onions, the sauteed beef mince and mix mix mix!! add salt and pepper again for flavour.

step 3. in a shallow frying pan, add oil and put 1 sheet of spring roll skin flat on the pan. just make sure you work quickly, because the skin get crispy quick.

step 4. add the eggy mixture in the middle of the spring roll sheet - only about the size of your palm.

step 5. fold all the edges over to make a parcel envelope and flip till both sides are golden and crunchy.
the eggy mixture with beef and LOTS of spring onions

spring roll skin all folded up and flipped till golden and crispy

the final product, chopped into quarters - makes a tasty snack or treat.
think ill make this at the next dinner party - great finger food!

since making martabak is a long and time consuming exercise - i snacked on these in between the cooking steps. a yummy freshly peeled and cut pineapple...delish!
see miss m - i am trying to be healthy sometimes :P

Oakover Winery & Restaurant, Swan Valley

In early September we celebrated a small Santa girls renunion together with Father's Day at Oakover Winery in the Swan Valley. At first i had mixed feelings about the place, only because i am not a big fan of their wines. But .... you cant judge the food based on the wine right?
However when the food finally came along, we were all very happy - the aroma of the garlic bread and generosity of portions soon made us shut up and eat up.
Here are the different dishes we sampled that day - in no particular order.
(i can't seem to manipulate the pics on blogger so easily).

Miss M's fish, was light and cooked perfectly. The skin was delicously crispy, i'll have to come back and try that next time.

This was my beef cheek with snow peas and salad with truffle oil.
The beef cheeks were amazingly tender and gelatinous, the mushroom sauce could have used a little more seasoning (bit bland). However i couldnt taste the truffle oil, i guess that was my first time - so maybe i didnt know what flavour to look for. (and i think i ate my beef too quickly and i probably missed all the delicate flavours - woops)

Ms J's chicken with sweet potato mash - another delicious dish.

the entree: home made bread with a trio of dips.
1. olive oil and balsamic vinegar
2. olive tapenade
3. capsicum salsa (i forgot!)

the yummy garlic bread with parmesan cheese and mustard seeds for a twist.
Overall we were all very happy with the meals. It was an amazing package deal for Father's day.
3 courses for $35 - which is very reasonable for perth. (no alcohol - we dont really drink anyways)
The only let down was the dessert. I had an apple pie with ice cream - which was not a good choice the strawberry cheesecake was much better.
more food blogs to come. watch this space!
