lemon detox update

wow its been about 7ish days since we started the lemon detox - in summary the detox was a complete failure.

ideally you are meant to be on the detox for 7-10 days.
in reality thats really f***** hard.
you're not allowed to eat any solid food.
you're only allowed to drink the lemon detox "tea" or water and nothing else.
we started slow and eased ourselves into diet mode.
fair enough ... i couldnt imagine giving up all food - cold turkey- thats hardcore and too hard to do for this food lover.
so we drank the lemon detox and slowly cut our food portions until we had no solid food and only drank the detox stuff.
it was hard and felt very wrong.
my tummy hated me.

so now the detox is nearly over.
thank god.
im never going to do it again unless im really desparate.
i love my food too much.

final weight: 54.9kg

hoping to get down to 50ish kg

lemon detox = not the way to lose weight = complete failure

tiramisu cupcakes

a very good friend of mine is coming over tomorrow and i had nothing to feed/entertain her.
so we made a batch of coffee & tiramisu cupcakes to go with mascarpone cheese topping.
the cupcakes were to die for when they came out of the oven and our lemon detox diet went out the window again... hehe....
here is the cupcake before assembly....

here they are after being "dressed"

they are too naughty to have in the house so hubby is taking them to work to "share" with his colleagues. luckily he works with LOTS of people

lemon detox diet

i've just put myself and hubby onto the lemon detox diet and we're failing miserably.
i dont think we're going to last.
its a pretty hardcore diet- you're not supposed to eat any solid food for about 5-7 days.
only think you're allowed to eat drink is water and this lemon detox drink made from some special maple syrup.
i'm going to keep trying anyways... i did spend $100 buying the syrup ... so i might as well finish it.
plus some people at work said it really works...
its just the not eating solid food part that's really hard for me.... because i love food...
i'll keep you updated on the progress as i go along.

Malaysia holiday : part 2

When Ming asked what we wanted to eat for dinner one night in KL
S and I quickly replied "Hawker Food!!" or basically anything in an old style family type food court. Ming said it could get a bit messy or dirty there since theres a wet night market near the food court, our reply..EVEN BETTER!!

as a tourist staying in the city, you wont really get the chance to hang out in local food courts with a nearby wet night market. so we were very eager to see what the markets had to offer.

first up, an oyster omelette ...i've never had it before and boy it tasted soo good.
the eggs were nice and fuffy, just the right amount of grease and the chilli had a nice sour tang to it... damn... it all went down soooo easy.

next... ming's cousin vincent bought a bundle of these.. malaysian otak otak.
i've had otak otak before, but indonesian style. these were the same but different at the same time. malaysian otak has spices and bumbu incorporated into the fish paste, indonesian otak otak is plain ... we add a peanut chilli sauce that adds the flavour in the end.

ming's fried udon noodle. (that's what they looked like)

and my laksa... it was not easy eating this in 30 degree humid weather. but i had to have laksa while i was in malaysia. i washed it down with a sugar cane drink as seen in the back ground.

last but not least... my all time favourite... chi cheong fun.
i cant believe they sell this stuff every where...
i've only ever seen chi cheong fun at dim sum... but hey.. im not complaining.

I love all this hawker food stuff,
the flavours are good and the prices are friendly!
really cant wait to go back to KL

Malaysia holiday: part 1

many moons ago we went away to malaysia and (supposedly) thailand.
the thailand part did not eventuate... due to factors beyond my control...
(stupid thai riots!!...grrr!!!)... you read more about it in my previous blog, because im not going there again.

anyways... when we arrived in malaysia we were picked up by some close friends of ours.
and from the airport we went straight to a small hawker food stall that sold great indonesian style bakmi. sorry no pictures, we were too bewildered, hungry and excited to think about taking photos of food. food was simple and tasty and we had our first bak ku teh soup in malaysia.
it was VERY nice and did the trick.

from there we went straight to the malls... i cant remember the name but its the one with the egyptian theme at the entrance. at the mall we exchanged money and tried many snacks that was sold through out the place. my most memorable snack was a tako yaki - japanese octopus balls.... it was the start of many more tako yakis throughout the holiday.

from the shopping centre we started thinking about dinner... what to eat? where to eat?
restaurant at the shopping mall? or go hawker food?
screw the restaurants... we want hawker food! good cheap local eats ... yum....

and so this is where we ended up, petaling jaya in some huge open style food court.
and we pretty much went stupid and ordered with our eyes and noses ... because EVERYTHING smelt soooo goood...and yummy.

this is Brandon .. our friends son... such a cutie pie!

fruit juice!! yum!!! to tell you the truth i cant remember what juice this was (simon ordered it) but it was a huge mug and it was like RM5? sooo cheap!! in the background leni had a watermelon juice which was very nice too.

30 sticks of chicken and beef satay with longtong.
grilled to perfection and the meat was soo tender and full of flavour.

our little sting ray.
i've never had sting ray before but its a very nice white tender fish, cooked in a local sambal sauce with these wierd local beans. so yummy!!

grilled squid again with a local sambal and green beans
this was a really delicious meal, we tried so many new and different things that night and i just want to say thank you soo much to leni and gary for picking us up from the airport, showing us around and then taking us to the hotel. we really appreciate your friendliness and hospitality in showing us around that day. Cant wait to go back to malaysia!
